I was born and raised in the Texas hill country and my daughters spent
most of their growing up time in far west Texas. They grew up showing horses, sheep, pigs,
heifers, and chickens (once) while in west Texas. When we got the opportunity to move to central
Texas, we were impressed with the beauty of the hill country. The girls settled into showing
in central Texas. We were introduced to meat goats here. Meat
goats became our new endeavor.
Gateridge Farms was born in the heart of Texas.
Boer goats had just come on the scene. Upon seeing some of the first imports, we were impressed with
their size, growth capabilities, hardiness, and the white body-red heads. Our first experience was
to find some nubian and spanish does and breed to a Boer for some percentage animals. |
|
We were so impressed with the resulting offspring. In 1998 we were given the opportunity to purchase
EGGSOtic (Tarzan-Kaptein bloodlines) from John and Jackie Edwards. This doe happened to be bred to their
best baby buck of that year, EGGSFile, who went on by himself or his offspring to totally dominate the show
ring. With John and Jackie's continued expertise and advice, we have worked to improve our small herd. |

Today, my daughters completed college and now are raising families of their
own. But they do come home for weekends to help with the goats...plus there is a new generation. More pictures
of the family on the About us Page
I continue
to work with a small group of fullbloods and percentages. I work to breed the best with the best--to breed
top structure, good bites, and overall good quality.
My goats are more than just a business---they are a way of life. So, if you want to talk goats
or just stop by for a visit....here at Gateridge, the gates are always open! |
